Planting A Seed

I’ll confess I had no intention of having a blog on this website.  From the beginning of blogging fever I was convinced it was a bad idea for someone who already makes a living with words.  Why put more of mine out there?  After all, most of you reading this also read my novels.  And those should tell you everything about me, or at least they should if you read enough of them. (And, of course, you need to.)

Lately, though, the idea of sending thoughts straight from my fingertips to your eyes, without a character in the middle to interpret, began to intrigue me.  After all, fiction is always at least one character away from the author.  And trust me, my characters don’t always tell it the way I think it is.  They have minds of their own.  They’re opinionated about things I’ve rarely considered.  They’re funny when typing is a stretch because I’m wringing my hands.  They’re immersed in drama when my life is gliding along, and all my news is excellent.

So the idea of a more immediate connection to you becomes reality today.  I’m not interested in writing a journal, and I’m a hundred percent certain you’re not interested in reading one.  But I do like the idea of taking this leap when something happens that makes me think about the strange world we share, or the strange profession I’ve elected to be part of, or even what it means to be human.

So welcome to Southern Exposure.  I hope you’ll join me from time to time and add your own thoughts.  Just a word-what are the chances there will only be one-about the title.  I’ve spent the majority of my life in the South–Florida, Arkansas, Louisiana, Virginia–but I’m also an avid gardener who knows the value of placing most plants in full sunlight for maximum bloom or ideal harvest.  The first step I take whenever I move is to determine where my southern exposure lies, and plant accordingly.

So, with plans for maximum bloom and an ideal harvest here on the web, I’ll look forward to meeting you in the sunshine.  I have grandiose intentions of posting twice a week.  We’ll see.  Meantime I hear the buzzing of honeybees.

I love your website Emilie. And welcome to the world of blogging. I enjoyed watching the video introducing the two series.
I have only read Wedding Ring, and have just started Lover’s Knot. I read every page that related to Mack in the first book, then went back and read about the women. I am not usually into any labelled “womens” but loved it. Thank you.
