Sunday Inspiration: “Every morning is a new arrival”

House with rounded porchThis being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes. As an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight. The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.

I found these inspiring words from the Sufi poet Rumi on my friend Diane Chamberlain’s Reader’s Page on Facebook. How wonderful it would be if we could welcome the world as we would a beloved house guest.

Can you imagine throwing open the doors of your home to all of your emotions, to all of life’s possibilities? Can you imagine inviting all of who you are, no matter what it may be?  Can you imagine warmly embracing all those around you — and yourself — in spite of flaws and failures?

How open are your doors?

I will try to think like this tomorrow morning. I haven’t been in a good place lately.
