Sunday Inspiration: Today is the only day

Today is the only day

“Today is a moment of light surrounded on all sides by darkness and oblivion. In the entire history of the universe, let alone in your own history, there has never been another just like it and there never will be another just like it again. It is the point to which all your yesterdays have been leading since the hour of your birth. It is the point from which all your tomorrows will proceed until the hour of your death. If you were aware of how precious it is, you could hardly live through it. Unless you are aware of how precious it is, you can hardly be said to be living at all. All other days have either disappeared into darkness and oblivion or not yet emerged from them. Today is the only day there is.”  -Frederick Buechner

If you’re still looking for a powerful New Year’s resolution — or just some inspiration — you can’t do better than this.

Today is the only day there is so live it as fully and joyfully as possible.

What do you plan to do on this glorious day?

Powerful Emilie, and so timely for so many reasons.
Congratulations of the status of “When We Were Sisters.” Can’t wait for “The Swallows Nest.” We’re enjoying 8″ of snow and frigid temps her in WN; I should add, from the inside looking out. Yet feeling blessed when watching the weather in other areas and offering prayers for those who have to be out in such extreme conditions.

That’s a lot of snow, Martha. It’s in the thirties here in Florida, with sunny skies, so I, too, am feeling sympathy for those truly threatened by bad weather this weekend. Meantime, in WN, this sounds like exactly the right time to enjoy a day with a good book–and a cozy fire, if you have one.

Oops – I suppose you wonder where I live. I left off a “C.” Western NC. I plan to do just as you suggest, fire in the fireplace (gas logs) and I’m reading “All the Light We Cannot See” for my upcoming book club meeting on the 20th. Brrr, cold for FL!

That’s funny. I thought, hmmm… is WN the abbreviation for Wisconsin? I didn’t think so, but it’s early in the morning here. So you’re in WNC, along with one of our sons. We’re planning to check with him today to see how he’s fared. I have All the Light–a signed first edition I was given–and have been saving and saving it. I heard the author speak and know I will find it engrossing. I hope you have a good discussion.

I, too, live in Florida, and it has been rather cold lately! I am currently reading Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly, along with an online bookclub I follow, #onthebooktubeshelf. So far, it”s pretty good.

That’s on my TBR list. I hope you continue to enjoy it.
