Welcome to my quilt studio. I've taken some time away from writing this week to spend in my sewing room working on the stockings for my granddaughter's Advent quilt. It's been great fun to be in there playing with fabrics. For more on that project, see my Block of the Month page.
The idea for the Advent quilt came from my book Sister’s Choice, the fifth Shenandoah Album novel. When Sister's Choice debuted, I had a contest and gave away a Sister's Choice quilt. The winner of that quilt, Susan Stermer, recently shared with me a photo of a quilt she made for her sister based on the quilt she won. Susan has the following to say about her quilt: "Margie's quilt is the same size and includes Sister's Choice blocks and Cross and Crown blocks. It is titled In His Service as Margie is a missionary of sorts. Her faith is very strong and I felt her faith defines her . . . it is her choice and she is my sister!"
If Susan's work inspires you to create a Sister's Choice quilt of your own, remember each of my Shenandoah Album novels has a companion quilt pattern book from Leisure Arts. Ask for Quilt Along With Emilie Richards: Sister's Choice and the other volumes at your local quilt shop. If they don't carry it, ask them to order it for you.
Susan also shared with me a quilt she made for her niece's wedding. Titled Wedding March at Christmastime, the quilt Susan designed features the Wedding March block and colors perfect for a December wedding. It was quilted by Edna Drakeford.
While we're on the subject of quilts for nieces, I'd like to share with you the gorgeous Endless Chain made by Carol Anderson of Minnesota. Carol tells me she had a great time collecting the striped fabrics and interviewed several blacks before deciding on the Michael Miller jet black that she used.
I hope you've been inspired by these wonderful quilts to start or complete one of your own projects. Please share your photos with me—I love to see them!
