Overview

ANNA FITZGERALD IS NOT WHO SHE SEEMS...

Anna Fitzgerald tries not to think about the years when she was Rosie Jensen, the stepdaughter of a powerful Minnesota senator. Now living in Florida with her young son, Ryan, she counsels the inhabitants of First Day, a shelter for runaways. No one from her past knows where she is, although she still foolishly yearns for the older sister who betrayed her.

Anna understands what the First Day inhabitants have undergone, and she knows how to help them. When Grady Clayton, Sun County prosecutor, mistakes her for a resident, Anna immediately sets him straight.

Grady is more than the scion of a wealthy Reynaldo Beach family and a candidate for State’s Attorney. He believes in finding the truth and upholding it, no matter the cost. Unfortunately, this time the cost may be too dear. Despite trying not to, he and Anna fall in love, and she knows too well how their relationship may affect his election.

Before she can move into the future, Anna must step back into her own dangerous past and tell the world her story.

Can she find a way to admit the truth and still keep Grady by her side?

Author's Note

I began my writing career before the term “women’s fiction” became popular. The best opportunity to be published was in the thriving romance genre, so, of course, that’s where I began.

Were my books that different back then? Yes, love was definitely at the heart of romance novels, but publishers, and particularly my wonderful editor Leslie Wainger, saw the need for many different kinds of stories woven around relationships. Leslie was willing to listen to my most offbeat ideas, and then to publish them.

Take the Homecoming series, for instance. One day we were discussing happy endings. Leslie was interested in loosening the requirement a bit. While I never expected her to be interested in a new idea that had occurred to me, an idea that had darker elements than I'd written before, she was enthusiastic right from the start.

Leslie and Silhouette Books went on to publish Runaway, and later this sequel, The Way Back Home. And, of course, since another important character, Tate, had emerged in those two books, I went on to write a third book, Fugitive.

After carefully reading each one, I decided that all three books should stand the way they are, without all the technology that we now take for granted. But the lack of our new gadgets didn’t affect the stories, which I’m still proud to have written.

I hope you’ll enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them.
