Sunday Inspiration: Say YES!

This is going to sound crazy. Say yes to everything. Accept all offers. Go along with the plan. Support someone else’s dream. Say :yes”; “right”; “sure”; “I will”; “okay”; “of course”; “YES!” Cultivate all the ways you can imagine to express affirmation. When the answer to all questions is yes, you enter a new world, a world of action, possibility, and adventure… It is undoubtedly an exaggeration to suggest that we can say yes to everything that comes up, but we can all say yes to more than we normally do. Once you become aware that you can, you will see how often we use the technique of blocking in personal relationships simply out of habit. Turning this around can bring positive and unexpected results… Try substituting “yes and” for “yes but” — this will get the ball rolling. –Patricia Ryan Madson

Can you imagine what life would be like if you said YES! twice as much as you do now… or three times as much… or ten times as much?  It takes so much more courage to say YES! than to say no.  And it takes imagination to envision the possibilities that YES! can open for you.  Give it a try for a week and let me know what happens.

This afternoon, I spent 2 hrs long distance talking to our 23 year old son….about this very thing..he has become very negative…..and I was blue in the face trying to find all ways of telling him to start saying yes…..even to himself…without sounding like a lecturing mom, you know? I remind him often, of the time he was in 2nd grade and he did’nt like the lady crossing guard..thought she was mean to him…(and she was sort of a cranky type), and I told him, every time she crosses him, to smile at her and say good morning or good afternoon…..and in a week..he told me….she LIKES ME MOM!!!! So today..I reminded him of that story, and your story here…it is all about YES……going outside of yourself. It is a way of giving, of caring….of loving, helping….and it is nothing about yourself….which is wonderful……one can become brave, and strong….and loving…

I’m glad this was meaningful. Someone on my FB page pointed out that her personal problem is saying “yes” too often. It’s always a balancing act, isn’t it? Yes to life, no to exploitation. Definitely something to consider.
