Sunday Inspiration: Freedom
Freedom makes a huge requirement of every human being. With freedom comes responsibility. For the person who is unwilling to grow up, the person who does not want to carry his own weight, this is a frightening prospect. -Eleanor Roosevelt
I hope you are having a wonderful 4th of July weekend.
One of my favorite historical figures, Eleanor Roosevelt, reminds me what the 4th is all about. It’s more than a celebration. It’s a call to live out our freedom responsibly, to carry our own weight, to protect and expand freedom for those who don’t have it.
How do you live out your freedom?
Ahh – Eleanor – my book club read the book “My Year with Eleanor” by Noelle Hancock. The author saw a quote of Eleanor’s in a coffee shop that admonished one to do one thing every day that scares you. After reading and discussing the book I read a biography of Eleanor. She was wise beyond her years and I now have a new appreciation for who she was and what she stood for. The words you quoted are meaningful, especially in this time in our history and accepting responsibility for the consequences of one’s actions, or lack of, is a legacy passed on to me and hopefully one I can leave in my stead.
