Sunday Inspiration: The Purpose of Life

The purpose of life”The purpose of life is to discover your gift. The meaning of life is to give it away.” David Viscott

I love to do cryptoquotes when I’m listening to music in the Chautauqua amphitheater. Last week I deciphered this one and thought of you. I loved it and hope you will, too.

What’s your gift? Are you sharing it?

Recently, I found that several people had called upon me for help in one way or another. I had things that I really wanted to get done for my own self, but I did the things for the other people and I realized that these people, my friends needed me, and really, after I did do what was needed by them, I realized my gift is giving time to help others. I am looking at those “disruptions” as opportunities to serve. And being grateful that I am able to do so.

My gift is caring and I think I share it with many who need someone to care about them.

Your friends and family are lucky.

I read this early this morning. Recently I have been trying very hard to unclutter our house. I am a keeper, a hoarder, a recycler, and I was ready to get to work. I kept getting requests to go to the Doctors with a friend, to go cut my friend’s disabled husband’s hair. To do all sorts of things that took time away from my plans. I was grousing to God about wanting to do my stuff…and I said, God, I really want to do my stuff. And
Low and behold, the Upper Room passage for that particular day…Luke 6:44 Jesus said, “Each tree is recognized by its own fruit”. Hello…What fruit do I want others to see in me?…and I am thankful for those opportunities. I hope to remember that even when I feel challenged and “ too busy”.

The Upper Room is good friend.
