Sunday Inspiration: God is not a Christian
“God is not a Christian, God is not a Jew, or a Muslim, or a Hindu, or a Buddhist.
All of those are human systems which human beings have created
to try to help us walk into the mystery of God.
I honor my tradition, I walk through my tradition,
but I don’t think my tradition defines God,
I think it only points me to God.”
― Bishop John Shelby Spong, (1931-2021)
Rest in Peace
Amen!
I had the good fortune of hearing John Shelby Spong. What a wonderful message of radical nclusion.
YES
Bishop Spong was a guest speaker here at Chautauqua Institution when he had a new book and I heard three weeks of lectures over the years. He was such a favorite that people would put chairs on the grass in every available spot, across streets, on lawns. I was blessed to hear his last public lecture, which was here in 2018. I never tired of him. He will be greatly missed.
After reading this several times today, my thoughts are that these are wise and wonderful and beautiful words.
I wish everyone would read them, and heed them.
