Sunday Inspiration: Go into the arts

go into the arts

“Go into the arts. I’m not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.”
~Kurt Vonnegut

I visited our local art galleries this week, and as always, I was amazed at the imagination and creativity on display. Take time this summer, if you can, to view someone else’s courage and creativity, as a spur for your own. Then pull out the piano bench or the sewing machine or the computer keyboard. Now’s the moment.

I agree …..I’m so glad I started paper crafting (making cards and scrapbooks for my granddaughters years ago). Creating gives you that sense of satisfaction….. a finished product. It’s a great escape while you are dong it….good for our minds.

True, true, true. I especially like the part about pulling out the sewing machine. I sew and am a quilter. We met several years ago when I lived in Springfield, VA. I now live in The Fairfax, a retirement community. I recently signed up for a drawing class which will start in August. It will be interesting to see where that goes.

I’m also a quilter.. I often wonder what people do, who don’t make things or read in their spare time. I guess they have clean houses.:).
