James Baldwin certainly “did it” at a time when the color of one’s skin wasn’t simply a hurdle but a roadblock. Is something standing in the way of you achieving your own goals? Maybe the best thing we can do is watch others to see how they’ve achieved similar dreams. When I finally gathered the courage to begin writing I watched and learned from others who’d ventured before me. I’m so grateful for those role models.
Do you have role models to lead your way? Are you inching forward?
I have a few role models. My parents (Mom will be 96 next month, Dad passed in 2015) are at the top of the list. Three brothers (two who I’ve lost) and a sister who all have shown me what hard work can accomplish. And all of them have a caring nature that they share in many different ways.
