Sunday Inspiration: Travel is fatal

Travel if fatal

“Travel is fatal
to prejudice, bigotry,
and narrow-mindedness.”

– Mark Twain

I just got home from a two week trip to France and Spain, part of which was on a river boat on the Rhône.  The more I see of the rest of the world, the less likely I am to think that my own country has all the answers—or even most of them these days. I’m always grateful for every trip I’ve been lucky enough to take. Where have you traveled and what has it taught you? Care to share?

For 3 years, after I graduated teacher’s college,I lived and taught in the NWT (far north of Canada). It shook up my assumptions. For once I was in the minority in a majority native community. I came to care for and respect the people I got to know. My oldest was born there and is Metis.
I have traveled to other places as well, but that experience made me appreciate that differences are special and we are no better than anyone else. Others have so much to give us, if we let them.

Your trip sounds wonderful! No one has all the answers but if we share and keep our options open, we may be able to figure some things out.

How wonderful Emilie to enjoy such an experience. I’ve always felt that ‘travel’ was an eye-opening and ‘mind-opening educational experience. Thanks for putting this out there.

I have traveled in Europe and Asia and learned something in every country. Twain was right.
